Crazy 8s: rules, special cards and stacking

How the Crazy 8 deck plays — matching, the five action cards, when Skip and Reverse actually take effect, and how stacked draws resolve.

The Crazy 8 deck is 108 colour-coded cards with five kinds of action card. If you have played a shedding game with a draw-two in it, you already know most of this — the detail worth reading is *when* each effect fires.

The basic rule

Play a card that matches the top of the discard pile by number or by colour. If you cannot, draw. First player to empty their hand wins the round.

The five action cards

CardEffectWhen it fires
ReverseFlips the turn direction.Immediately, the moment the card lands — it does not wait for Next.
SkipThe next player loses their turn. When the current player presses Next.
Draw Two (+2)The next player draws two before playing.A “Draw 2” prompt appears for them to claim the cards.
WildThe player chooses the active colour.A colour picker opens straight away.
Wild Draw Four (W+4)Choose a colour and the next player draws four.Picker first, then the forced draw.
Special effects apply whether the card is played onto the table or into a pile.

Stacking draws

+2 and Wild +4 stack. If someone plays a +2 at you, you can answer with another stacking card and pass the accumulated total along instead of drawing. Whoever fails to continue the chain draws the whole pile — four, six, eight, however far it got.

Stacking makes a two-card penalty escalate fast at a big table. If your group hates that, agree up front to play without it and write it into the house-rules note.

Running it at the table

  • Host a game with the Crazy 8 deck type. The game list filters to the matching presets.
  • Deal seven cards each — the preset default.
  • Turn turn order on. Skip and Reverse only mean something if the table has an order.
  • Leave the discard pile face up so everyone can see what to match.

Scoring across rounds

Crazy 8s is usually played to a target score over several rounds. Open the scoreboard in Tally mode and add each round’s points for the cards left in everyone else’s hands. Point values for the action cards are configurable under Settings › Deck › Special card values, so you can match whatever your group has always used.

The 108-card deck is included free — no purchase, no unlock.
